Hege Liseth is a visual artist living in Fredrikstad, Norway. Her works deals with ideas about cycles in nature and everyday life. Reflecting on the subjects of movement, time, and presence. Her practice ranges from paintings, drawings and animations to siteworks and interventions.
“I am concerned with the abstract imagery and issues arising from the formalistic abstract tradition. But where formalism is self-referring, I am concerned with an imagery that at a pre-conceptual level connects the gesticulating and the sensory-body-system with the expression – and such incorporates movement, time and presence. I have a desire to form an understanding of the connection between body and mind.
I often develop a work slowly through repetition, building it by smaller pieces of simple pictorial elements. I do mark-making, tracing, repeating, layer upon layer, conscious or automatic, trying to push the boundaries and possibilities for the visual image.”
