Hege Liseth is a visual artist living in Fredrikstad, Norway. She works across different media and techniques, but with a major emphasis on painting and drawing. The foundation is first and foremost in an abstract visual language characterized by an intuitive and spontaneous approach that extends across form and pattern, scale and media. Her works deals with ideas about cycles in nature and everyday life.

“I am concerned with the abstract imagery and issues arising from the formalistic abstract tradition. But where formalism is self-referring, I am concerned with an imagery that at a pre-conceptual level connects the gesticulating and the sensory-body-system with the expression – and such incorporates movement, time and presence.

I often develop a work slowly through repetition, building it by smaller pieces of simple pictorial elements. I do mark-making, tracing, repeating, layer upon layer, conscious or automatic, trying to push the boundaries and possibilities for the visual image.”
